Our Silverback Gorilla Tours also include an opportunity to visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village to experience and learn about the culture of the people of Rwanda. Then there is a boat ride and tour of the Lake Kivu and its beautiful islands. Did I forget to mention visiting the small but relatively organized Kigali city. This gorilla tour package should help you appreciate the natural beauty of Rwanda.

Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
Our guide will come to meet and pick you up at Rwanda International Airport before we start a long journey to Nyungwe Forest. The Nyungwe Forest is located in southwestern Rwanda, at the border with Burundi to the south and Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. The Nyungwe rainforest is probably the best preserved montane rainforest in Central Africa. It is located in the watershed between the basin of the river Congo to the west and the basin of the river Nile to the east. From the east side of the Nyungwe forest comes also one of the branches of the Nile sources. Nyungwe Forest National Park is a vast untouched tropical rainforest with a high dense canopy. The drive from Kigali takes almost 5 hours. Dinner and stay overnight on full board basis.
You will wake up and have breakfast before being driven to the Nyungwe forest offices for briefing on chimpanzee tracking. The guides know the locations of the chimpanzee and will move with you throughout the activity. After tracking the chimpanzees, you will be taken back to your lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, you will go for a canopy walk in the Nyungwe Forest and see the great variety of tree species, butterflies, birds and other primates. Dinner and Overnight stay on full board basis.
Meal Plan: Full Board
Wake up at your own time but ready for departure for the Volcanoes National Park after late breakfast. Your guide will drive you off to Volcanoes National Park. This will be a long journey but very interesting and memorable with stops in between to give you time to admire interesting landmarks. You will drive by Lake Kivu and have time to take great photos of the Lake and other beautiful features along the way. Rwanda has a beautiful countryside with rolling hills, green plantations and welcoming locals. Lunch will be en-route. You will arrive late to your hotel near the Volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight stay on full board basis.
Meal Plan: Full Board
Briefing for gorilla tracking at the volcanoes national park starts at 7:00 am. Wake up early and take your breakfast then head to the park headquarters in Musanze. Ask your hotel to pack for you lunch and enough drinking water. The head park guide will share with you information related to gorilla trekking in Rwanda and how to act while with the gorilla family. Rwanda has 10 habituated gorilla families that are available for tourism. The other families are wild or set aside for research purposes. The time taken tracking mountain gorillas is unpredictable – select a gorilla family for tracking based on your general fitness. Gorilla tracking comes with several challenges but the experience of watching a gorilla group in the wild is very special indeed. The safety and security of visitors while tracking mountain gorillas is guaranteed as mountain gorillas are generally calm and peaceful compared to most large wild animals.
Take as many photos of the gorilla family as you will be with them for only one hour. Always remain calm even when they get close to you and follow guidance from your park guide. Once you have finished your one hour of gorilla watching, you will go back to the starting point where the company guide will have been waiting for you. You will go back to the lodge for lunch and rest. Later in the evening, you will go to the Iby’iwacu cultural village in Musanze which is very near the Volcanoes national park. Enjoy the local dances and storytelling as you learn about the local culture of the people of Rwandan. Dinner and overnight stay on full board basis.
Meal Plan: Breakfast & Lunch
After yesterday’s demanding activity, you can wake up late but ready to checkout as you depart for Kigali. The journey back to Kigali is 2-3 hours bypassing amazing mountainous countryside. Once you reach Kigali, the driver will take you for a city tour that includes visiting the Kings palace, local markets and the Gisozi genocide war memorial site. You should buy some family gifts from the local art/crafts shop. After the city tour, the guide will drive you back to Airport for departure. End of Tour
