Your beautiful 10 days in Tanzania will take you to Kigoma Town which is located on the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika which is the second-oldest freshwater lake in the world, the second-largest by volume, and the second-deepest, in all cases after Lake Baikal in Siberia. It is the world’s longest freshwater lake and one of the best lakes in the world for diving, snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing. You will have 4 days exploring Mahale National Park which is the only place where chimpanzees and lions co-exist. Mahale contains at least world’s largest protected population (approx. 700-1000) of the eastern subspecies of Chimpanzee. This package, will also give you a chance to experience African lives in Dar es salaam. This beautiful City which is nestled along a natural harbor on the Indian Ocean, Dar es Salaam is a multicultural city, home to African Tanzanians, Arabic and South Asian communities, British and German expatriates, Catholics, Lutherans and Muslims.
Finally, you will have a day trip to Bagamoyo. Strolling through Bagamoyo’s narrow, unpaved streets takes you back to the mid-19th century, when the town was one of the most important settlements along the East African coast and the terminus of the trade caravan route linking Lake Tanganyika with the sea. Slaves, ivory, salt and copra were unloaded here before being shipped to Zanzibar Island and elsewhere, and many European explorers, including Richard Burton, Henry Morton Stanley and David Livingstone, began and ended their trips here.

We take breakfast early in the morning and get transferred to Dar es salaam International Airport to catch our domestic scheduled flight to Kigoma. After a meet and greet at Kigoma Airport, we leave for Mahale National Park. This transport route does include the combination of 4WD vehicle driving from Kigoma Town to Mgambo or Lagosa village where we will take a private boat to Mahale National Park (Depending on the road and Lagosa river situations). If you want to enjoy with boat transfer, you can hop on our private speed boat in Kigoma which takes 5 hours to Mahale National Park and then spend your three days tour in the park before we hop in back to Kigoma Town Town. With this option, you will have the wonderful chance of exploring the Lake Tanganyika creation. Your Host Greystoke Lodge will welcome you to the Lodge for checking in. You have 2 full days to explore this beautiful Park which lies on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Kigoma Region, Tanzania. The chimpanzee population in Mahale Mountains National Park is the largest known, and due to its size and remoteness, the chimpanzees flourish. The Park is one of only two protected areas for chimpanzees in the country and it is the only place where chimpanzees and lions co-exist. Mahale is located in the Western Tanzania to the South of Kigoma town, it is bordering Lake Tanganyika-the World’s longest, second deepest and least polluted freshwater lake-harbouring an estimated 1000 fish species. There are no roads or other infrastructure within the park boundaries, and the only ways in and out of the park are via boat through Lake Tanganyika or by private charter. Although your main activity is Chimp trekking, you will also enjoy with snorkeling, swimming and sub bathing on the beautiful shore of Lake Tanganyika. Dinner and stay overnight on full board basis.

After taking breakfast in the morning, we will take 2 hours private boat to Mgambo Village where we will meet our Driver who will take us back to Kigoma Town. We will have not less than 5 hrs drive to Kigoma Town. Otherwise, with an extra cost, we can take a direct private boat from the Hotel to Kigoma Town which takes 4 to 5 hours depending on weather condition. Whatever the option we may take, will lead us into getting to the bustling Kigoma Town safely. Kigoma is the regional capital of western Tanzania and a central port in the area. The Town is located on the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika and is surrounded by rugged mountains and forests that make it a pleasing and beautiful location. The town makes a good overland base for visits and chimpanzee safaris to both Gombe and Mahale National Park. In the past, Kigoma has been in competition with the nearby Ujiji Town, but over the last decades Kigoma has gained a strong economic foothold in the region and its port is of central importance to the activities of the area. We take breakfast early in the morning and start a sightseeing tour in Kigoma Town. We will visit the fishing village, fish market, the historical port and some other interesting sites before we drive to Ujiji Town. Ujiji, is the oldest town in the western Tanzania and is the place where Richard Burton and John Speke first reached the shore of Lake Tanganyika in 1858. It is the site of the famous meeting on 10 November 1871 when Henry Stanley found Dr. David Livingstone, and reputedly uttered the famous words "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" A monument known as the "Dr. Livingstone Memorial" was erected here to commemorate the meeting. There are also a modest museum and a former slave route near the market. After the tour we drive back Kigoma Town for lunch and leisure. Dinner and stay overnight on full board basis.

After breakfast we drive all the way to Bagamoyo, the oldest city in Tanzania. Bagamoyo played various historical roles in Tanzania. Apart from being a slave and ivory port, it was also a German headquarter in 1891. Explorers such as Burton, Speke, Grant, Livingston and Stanley all passed in this town. The name Bagamoyo comes from Swahili word "bwagamoyo" (throw down your heart), a despair expressed by people who were captured as slaves of knowing that they face a long uncertain future. Being here we will be able to visit some of the most historical and interesting places such as the Old Fort, Germany Boma, Germany Cemetery, Germany Hanging Place, Old Custom and Catholic Museum. After the tour we drive to Oceanic Bay Hotel for leisure and lunch before we drive back to Dar es salaam for dinner and overnight stay on half board basis.
