Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
The Company Guide will pick you up very early in the morning from Airport to start the journey to Nyungwe forest which is located in the south west part of Rwanda. You will be briefed about the entire Rwanda safari and what to expect. The journey takes about 5 hours and allows you to marvel at the beautiful hilly Rwanda countryside. You will understand why Rwanda is often referred to as “A Land Of A Thousand Hills”. Dinner and Overnight stay on full board basis.
Meal Plan: Full Board
You will wake up early and have early breakfast at your hotel before going for briefing on your chimpanzee tracking adventure at the Nyungwe forest offices. The guides know where to find the chimpanzee and you should follow them deep into the forest along with your porter. Once you locate the chimpanzee, take enough photos and observe the behavior of the primates as much as you can. After the chimpanzee tracking adventure, you should go back for lunch at your lodge.
In the afternoon you will go for East Africa’s only canopy walk. This walk takes place above a deep gorge cutting across the massive forest. Lasting about 1½ hours, the walk takes you through some beautiful foliage and animal habitats. En route you will have the chance to spot blue monkeys and unique birds that dwell in the upper levels of the forest canopy. Dinner and stay overnight on full board basis.
Meal Plan: Full Board
You will wakeup, take breakfast, checkout and prepare to be transferred to Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is the largest fresh water lake in Rwanda and goes all the way to the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Lake is world famous for its boiling Methane gas that comes out from underneath. Once you arrive you will have lunch overlooking the Lake. In the afternoon, you will be taken for a boat ride along the several Lake islands. Once you are done with the boat ride, you should relax by the shower line throughout the evening. Dinner and overnight stay on full board basis.
Meal Plan: Full Board
You will wake up at your own time, take breakfast and prepare to be taken for a tour of the places around the Lake Kivu including the fishing villages. For bird watchers, this is a perfect time to spot several resident and migratory bird species. You will also spot several primates and mammals that live around the lakes side and off-course the smiling locals carrying out their daily activities. After this tour, you will set off for the Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. Dinner and overnight on full board basis.
Wake up very early to sumptuous breakfast at your hotel and head to the Kinigi park headquarters for briefing on gorilla tracking at 7:00 am. The head guide will let you know what you need to bring along during the trek and how to behave around the gorillas. Afterwards, you will be given a chance to choose a gorilla family and hire a porter. A gorilla safari in Rwanda gives you an opportunity to select a gorilla family from 10 habituated ones. Choose one taking into consideration your overall fitness.
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda can be challenging but the excitement and thrill leading to the location of the gorilla family makes it worthwhile. Once you locate the gorilla family, follow instructions from your guide. Mountain gorillas are very peaceful and calm creatures compared to other large wild animals. They rarely attack humans unless extremely provoked. You will have one hour with the gorillas unless you are booked for a gorilla habituation experience takes three hours. Once done watching mountain gorillas, you should head back to the starting point to meet your guide who will drive you back to the lodge for lunch and rest.
After resting, you will be taken to visit the Ibyiwacu cultural village located near The Volcanoes National Park. While in the village, you will be entertained to cultural dances and learn more about the local culture of the people of Rwanda. Dinner and overnight stay on full board basis.
Meal Plan: Full Board
Once again, wake up early and take your breakfast before heading to the Volcanoes National Park offices for a briefing on Golden Monkey Trekking. After the briefing, you should hire a porter to help with your backpack or any other heavy equipment so that you can comfortably track the Golden Monkeys. The park guide will lead you into the forest where you will finally spot the Golden Monkeys on top of the trees with some coming down to feed in the ground. Golden Monkeys are a rare and endangered species. They look very cute and you should take as many photos for your collection. Once done, you will head back to the park for lunch and rest. Later in the evening, our guide will take you for an evening drive to visit the beautiful Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Dinner and stay overnight on full board basis.
Meal Plan: Beakfast & Lunch
Because of the previous days tiring activities, you should wake up at your own leisure and prepare for the journey back to Kigali for the city tour. This is the day that you will visit the City Market, The Kings Palace and the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site. This city tour will give you another chance to buy local art/crafts as gifts for family back at home. Afterwards our guide will drive you to airport for departure.
